THE STORY OF OUR PATIENTS

A 45-year-old marketing executive, had always considered herself generally healthy person. However, she felt unusually fatigued, her clothes seemed to fit tighter, and she often experienced mild abdominal discomfort.

Did a routine check-up, the doctor noticed elevated liver enzymes in her blood tests. Concerned, the doctor recommended an ultrasound to get a clearer picture of her liver health.

The diagnosis: she had non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), a condition where excess fat builds up in the liver without the presence of significant alcohol consumption.

The news was a wake-up call. Sarah learned that NAFLD is often associated with obesity, diabetes, and high cholesterol. The doctor explained that while the condition was common, it could progress to more serious liver issues if not managed properly.

Her treatment plan included lifestyle changes such as adopting a balanced diet, increasing physical activity, and losing weight. She also scheduled regular follow-ups to monitor her liver health and ensure she was on the right track.

A 38-year-old software engineer, having severe pain in his lower back. It felt like a sharp, relentless pressure that wouldn’t go away, and it radiated to his side. He initially thought it was just a muscle strain from his weekend sports activities, but the pain became unbearable and was accompanied by nausea and frequent trips to the bathroom.

Concerned, he came to us and did a series of tests, including ultrasound, the doctor diagnosed him with a kidney stone.

The size of the kidney stone was relatively small, but it was causing significant discomfort. The doctor discussed various treatment options, including pain management and increased fluid intake to help the stone pass naturally. In some cases, more invasive procedures are needed, but thankfully, his condition was manageable with conservative treatment.

He was advised to drink plenty of water to help flush out the stone and to avoid foods high in oxalates, like spinach and nuts, which could contribute to stone formation. He was also given pain medication to manage his symptoms. The doctor emphasized the importance of hydration and lifestyle adjustments to prevent future stones.

During the next few weeks, he adhered to the treatment plan diligently. He increased his water intake, modified his diet, and monitored his symptoms closely. The pain gradually subsided, and after a follow-up appointment, a new ultrasound scan showed that the stone had passed.

A 32-year-old graphic designer, over the past six months, she began experiencing some troubling symptoms: heavy menstrual bleeding, frequent pelvic pain, and a feeling of fullness in her abdomen that made it uncomfortable to sit for long periods.

Initially, she brushed off these symptoms as normal menstrual issues. However, when her symptoms worsened, she decided to visit us for a thorough evaluation. After a detailed examination and an ultrasound, she was diagnosed with uterine fibroids—noncancerous growths that develop in or on the uterus.

The doctor explained that fibroids are quite common, especially among women in their 30s and 40s, and can vary in size and number. While many women with fibroids experience no symptoms, her symptoms were significant enough to impact her daily life. The doctor discussed several treatment options, ranging from medication to manage the symptoms to various surgical interventions if necessary.

She was concerned about the impact of these options on her health and future plans. The doctor recommended trying medication first to alleviate her symptoms and to manage her condition conservatively. This approach aimed to reduce her fibroids’ size and make her symptoms more manageable. The doctor also referred her to gynaecologist for further assessment.

Over the next few months, she followed her treatment plan diligently. She took her prescribed medications and made some lifestyle adjustments, including incorporating a balanced diet and regular exercise to help with her overall well-being. Though the medication helped, her symptoms didn’t fully resolve, and the specialist eventually discussed surgical options, including a myomectomy (removal of the fibroids) or, in some cases, a hysterectomy.

After careful consideration and discussions with the specialist, she opted for a myomectomy. The procedure was successful, and her recovery went smoothly. Emily noticed a significant improvement in her symptoms and felt a renewed sense of vitality.

A 40-year-old mother of two, over the past few months, began noticing changes in her body that she couldn’t ignore. She felt unusually tired, experienced sudden weight fluctuations, and had difficulty concentrating.

Her hands began to tremble and she felt a persistent lump in her throat, she decided to come and see us. After a thorough examination, blood tests and ultrasound, she was diagnosed with thyroiditis—a condition in which the thyroid gland, located in the neck, becomes inflamed.

The doctor explained that thyroiditis can cause the thyroid to become either overactive (hyperthyroidism) or underactive (hypothyroidism), and symptoms can vary depending on the type and stage of the condition.

In her case, her thyroiditis was causing an overproduction of thyroid hormones, leading to symptoms like rapid heartbeat, anxiety, and unintentional weight loss.

Her treatment plan began with medications to manage her symptoms and reduce inflammation. She was prescribed anti-inflammatory drugs and medications to regulate her thyroid hormone levels. Additionally, the doctor recommended regular monitoring to adjust her treatment as needed and ensure her thyroid levels stabilized.

The adjustment period was challenging for Laura. She experienced side effects from the medications and had to adapt to a new routine of frequent doctor visits, blood tests and ultrasound scans. Her energy levels fluctuated, and it took time to find the right balance with her medications.

She remained committed to her treatment plan. She educated herself about thyroiditis and incorporated lifestyle changes to support her health, such as adopting a balanced diet rich in nutrients that support thyroid function and practicing stress management techniques.

As the months passed, her symptoms gradually improved. Her thyroid levels stabilized, and she regained her energy and clarity of mind.
